该剧以平成6年（1994年）埼玉县白骨遗骸案为引，警方通过初代菊水月作棋子展开调查，交织上条桂介挑战龙升战六冠王的棋局对决。通过双线叙事回溯昭和47年（1972年），幼年上条在退休教师唐泽引导下接触将棋，并与传奇棋士东明重庆相遇，命运因将棋发生转折，讲述了他背负残酷命运、追求成为最优秀棋手的半生历程。剧中融入悬疑元素，真实还原将棋头衔战仪式，展现竞技世界的哲学内涵。。民国初期，高不就为争取反袁势力到北京混混帮闯山门，却被堂主铜狮子所害，小乞丐张野鬼仗义搭救，两人结拜为兄弟。之后，两人联手挫败了袁世凯称帝的野心。。Someone downloads an app on your phone behind your back.
