庙里的佛像塌了，需要三千元钱重新修葺，为了筹得这笔钱，和尚（李强 饰）先后来到了佛教科和文物科，然而两方人马只会相互推诿责任，看来谁也不打算掏出这笔钱来。无奈之下，和尚前去找在另一座庙中生活的师兄帮忙，可是师兄只是劝他放弃。 之后，和尚决定靠化缘筹钱，哪知道没过多久竟然被警察抓进了派出所，出来后，和尚遇见了想要帮忙的妓女、企图哄女友开心的小伙子和一心想替妻子求药治病的丈夫，甚至当起了算命先生。最终，和尚卖掉了念珠总算筹齐了钱，当他满心欢喜的回到庙里之时，等待着他的，却是寺庙即将被拆的消息。。Inspired by the true life stories of a group of characters battling for survival in the brutal East End of London in the 1880s.
