活在姐姐孙丽（牛莉 饰）影子下的孙燕（陶虹 饰）一直都渴望成为姐姐那样的人，长得漂亮，学历又高，周围一直男孩子不断，而自己一切都很平平。漂亮的姐姐虽然喜欢英俊的青梅竹马马黎明（许亚军 饰），但嫌他不争气，后来嫁给了研究员张波（刘冠军 饰）。而孙燕这边，经师傅介绍的医院后勤人员潘树林（姜武 饰）则完全不像姐夫那般有文化懂浪漫，但胜在为人正直对自己也好。可姐姐孙丽却瞧不起潘树林，恰逢这时，孙燕的小学同学翟志刚（何冰 饰）对她发动了猛烈追求，二人不久便结了婚。可婚后，孙燕发现翟志刚心胸狭小，二人完全不合拍，最终以离婚收场。而爱折腾的姐姐留下了女儿和姐夫，出了国和外国人勾搭上，最终也离了婚。一切兜兜转转，而马黎明和潘树林这时又出现在了姐妹俩面前，故事又会朝哪个方向发展呢？ 改编自万方的同名小说。。One day, thinking that it will make your wife and friends smile, you shave off the moustache that you have had for the last ten years. Viewers who like their conclusions tidy may rebel, but those who relish outstanding performances in the service of an intriguing idea will be entertained.
