李厂长（安琪饰）是织袜厂新鲜上任的厂长，正在兴头上的她决定好好的整顿一下厂里的亏损局面。哪知道难题接二连三的来临，李厂长先是发现自己的女儿，同时也是厂里的女工亚男背着她偷偷的和修配厂的王小刚谈恋爱，之后，李厂长又发现厂里的另一名女工陶一萍身边不断的换着男朋友。 于是，李厂长将厂里效益不佳的原因归咎到了工人们乱搞男女关系这件事情上，于是，她决定将此作为问题的突破口，并且找来了发誓不谈恋爱的女工吴芳作为大家的榜样。随着时间的推移，李厂长开始感到力不从心，不仅厂里的效益没有提升，女工们对她的意见还非常之大。而李厂长的老同事，修配厂的罗厂长却在厂里有着很高的人气和声望。。A film version of a play Fassbinder directed in Hamburg, Clare Booth Luce's "The Women".
