上官天一受李大人之托，从黑影门手中救出一名叫梓铭的男童，却不想因此惹来灭门之祸，他开始追查真相，查明武妃指使黑影门绑架小皇子梓铭，让自己的弟弟冒充梓铭继位，最终上官天一阻止了武妃的阴谋。Inspired by W.G. Sebald’s book and based on WWII archive footage, the film puts forward the question: is it morally acceptable to use civilian population as a means of war? Is it possible to justify mass destruction for the sake of higher “moral” ideals?
