在下关半岛的大间渔港，渔民小滨房次郎（绪形拳 饰）独自将女儿养大，女儿鹭子（夏目雅子 饰）与咖啡店工作的青年俊一（佐藤浩市 饰）相爱。俊一为博得房次郎的欢心，决定随其学习打鱼。经过几天等待，二人终于遭遇金枪鱼群。房次郎只顾专心捕鱼，俊一则不慎被鱼线缠头，险些丧命。出院后的俊一夫妇搬回城里居住，房次郎终于孤身一人。 一年后，俊一和鹭子回到渔村。某晚俊一出海未归，无线电中断。房次郎出海寻找，发现俊一正跟一条大鱼搏斗，筋疲力尽，奄奄一息…… 影片改编自吉村昭同名获奖小说，日本电影旬报评选八十年代百佳电影第33名。。Back Stage is a 1919 comedy, one of the last films that Buster Keaton would appear with Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle before they went their separate ways, Keaton would get his own studio, and Arbuckle got into feature length films.
