故事发生在1973年的日本，电视广播公司突然宣布要停止对一个资历十分老道的交响乐团进行经济上的资助，之后，公司不顾舆情，贸然解散了交响乐团，解雇了所有的团员们，虽然乐团成员们为他们的命运抗争过，但这抗争最终以失败告终。 交响乐团原指挥堂本认为，他们应该放弃不切实际的期望，去寻找新的金主，而另一部分团员则认为，总是高居庙堂之上，接受别人的资助是没有任何前途可言的，他们应该凭借自己的力量，走进民间，融入社会。观念的分歧导致乐团分裂成为了两个团体，留下来的这一波人以“和市民在一起”为口号，继续着乐团的表演。但危机并未止于此。。Here's a modern-day film noir in which you're never sure what's real and what isn't real.
